Thanks for looking us up! Our mission at BetterBirth, LLC is to provide the worlds best birth experiences. We deliver babies at home and especially like to do water births. We have portable tubs we can bring for your labor if you’d like.

We believe home is the best place to birth for normal, healthy pregnant women with no pre-existing complications. At home you can have more control over your experience, and feel more comfortable, both of which lead to a more satisfying birth. We believe birth is a normal, natural process, and our job is to support you and help you through that process.

We believe your right to make your own decisions is supreme, and you must always be supported with accurate and complete information in order to make those decisions.

Our job is to ensure that your pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum period are going normally. If they are not, our job is to detect that and return them to normal. If we cannot, we will get you the help you need. We have developed strong working relationships with other providers (including naturopathic physicians, obstetricians, and other health professionals) and won’t hesitate to refer you to one if necessary.

We believe your birth is a pivotal experience in yoru life, and will have repercussions much broader than you might imagine. Therefore, we will work kard to make it exactly the experience you want it to be. A "good outcome," that is, a healthy mother and baby, are the absolute MINIMUM standard of acceptability. Of course you want a healthy mother and baby! And we will never compromise our efforts to ensure you get them. But birth can and should be so much MORE than that. It is the experience beyond "alive and well" that makes BetterBirth, LLC an outstanding choice for your maternity care. We hope you will describe your experience with childbirth and with us as "exquisite."

We believe the relationship between midwife and mother is very important, and can have a big impact on your birth. Although we have multiple midwives on our staff, only one will be your midwife. Your midwife will see you for your appointments, take urgent after hour calls, and attend your delivery. The other midwives may fill in on rare occasions when your midwife is not available, but otherwise you can count on your midwife to be there for you.

If you have a preference, you may choose the midwife you want. If not, we will select one for you. You may change midwives at any time.

Our Midwives:

Suzanne Smith, CPM holds Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Midwifery from the Utah College of Midwifery, and a Bachelors degree in Human Biology from Stanford University. Suzanne is also a Certified Doula (CD), Certified childbirth Educator (CCE), and Certified Traditional Midwife (CTM). She is currently the Academic Dean at the Midwives College of Utah. Suzanne is licensed to practice midwifery by the Medical Board of the State of California. Having practiced midwifery for eight years, Suzanne has helped over 450 moms and babies experience the joy of childbirth.

Cathy Larson, DEM has been helping birthing families since 1997 as a doula and childbirth mentor (trained through DONA, ALACE and Birthing From Within).  Cathy has studied midwifery at The Farm in Tennesee and at Midwives College of Utah, completing her training at BetterBirth, LLC.  Cathy is described by her clients as a very caring and sensitive midwife and has assisted over 150 births.

We have offices in Sugarhouse (in Salt Lake County) and Orem (Utah County). Most of our clients live in these two areas, but occasionally we venture out to neighboring counties. We prefer to stay within about 45 minutes of one of our offices, where we have our home base.

If you would like a free information packet, please contact us by phone or e-mail. The packet contains details on our services, including prices, as well as information on home birth, midwives, and other useful topics.
