Hello!  I am Lynda Sizemore, a certified/registered midwife in the state of Colorado who honors and respects a woman's desire to birth with confidence and dignity with minimal interference. We at A BETTER BIRTH (C.A.N.) assist  approximately 30+ families birth their babies each year in the home. If a lady or her baby needs to transfer or transport to hospital, I'll remain with them to lend support there rare as that occurs.

Today's parents need to realize more than ever  normal birth should not be a medical event which takes place only in institutions. The current national Cesarean section rate is 1:3 for planned hospital births.  Low risk mothers can have qualified and experienced help at home without unnecessary medical interventions. "Less is best" is my motto, and we at A Better Birth (C.A.N.) would be happy to assist and minister to you mentally, physically and spiritually during this amazing childbearing year

I am a former Labor & Delivery nurse turned childbirth educator, then monitrice, also a LLL leader and a lactation nurse. When I realized my ultimate calling was to serve families at home in 1982, I began homebirth midwifery training. My husband and I have three grown children, and our first grandbaby a boy, was born in 1999 to our son and his wife with my help, as well as our younger daughter and her husband's first baby in 2004, a girl.  Since then, two additional grandchildren have come into our lives since 2006, and I love the nickname "granny midwife" by all!

My experience in birth includes over 1400 births as of 2008 spanning more 25 years. I enjoy helping moms with VBAC birth, waterbirth, dad catching, siblings present, and more. My fee is $3000  depending on discounts, and location. We can assist you in billing your insurance provider, participate in CHP+ for those who don't qualify for Medicaid, and do accept payment plans and some limited bartering. My services continue to expand and include the same personalized one-on-one care midwives are well known for. We, "A Better Birth" - Childbirth Alternative Network, are a networking Christian midwifery practice, and midwifery assistant training is available on a limited basis.  A number of my former midwifery students have gone on to serve in mission fields.

The fee includes: pregnancy testing, medical history taking, risk assessment for a home delivery, baseline physical, in house labwork, well-woman pap smears, nutritional workup, prenatals, childbirth education classes, large lending library, several home visits, labor & birth care at home, postpartum visits, newborn care up to six weeks, including newborn screens and birth registration. Waterbirths are also available - ask us!  I am state licensed, FCM Certified Midwife, CPR certified, and Infant resusitation certified, and continue gaining CEU's to further my education.  For more details, please email, phone, or visit my website at the below addresses.

My assistants and I serve families all over N. Colorado and accept clients from S. WY.  If you see my car's "MIDWIFE" plates, please wave or honk.  Midwives, after all, really help people out!

Warmly,
Lynda Sizemore
