Cathy O’ Bryant is a Certified Professional Midwife and has been
practicing midwifery for 21 years. She has helped over 500 mothers and
babies with the joy of childbirth. She holds current certification in
infant and adult CPR, as well as being NRP certified, and is fully
trained to recognize those situations where a home birth would not be
recommended.
Enlightened Birth Midwifery Service specializes in safe home birth,
waterbirth, and
childbirth education. Complete prenatal and postpartum care is included
when you elect a home delivery. Childbirth preparation classes and a
portable birthing tub are also available.
Philosophy of Practice:
My style of midwifery is non-interventive. I encourage and support the
laboring woman to make choices surrounding her birth. I feel that in
most cases she intuitively knows what is best for her and her baby. I
respect this knowledge and always support her desires providing they are
within safe limits. I believe birth to be a natural physiological
process and not a medical phenomenon.
I believe that home birth and care from a traditional midwife can be of
the highest quality and in most cases in the same caliber as other
health care providers. I believe that home birth isn’t for everyone, but
that home birth should be available as a childbirth alternative for
those who desire it.
I pledge to do everything possible in assisting you to have the kind of
birth experience that you desire, Many hours of training and experience
have preceded my time with you at your birth, and I continue to study
and learn all that I possibly can about this; life’s greatest miracle.
My practice is uniquely situated in that I am able to travel within an
hour/ two hour radius of my home to do births. I have done births in all
surrounding counties. Utah, Salt Lake, Summit, Juab, Sanpete, Millard,
Carbon and Tooele.
Personal Life: I am the mother of 11 children (ten living) that were all born naturally, including three home births. I reside in Payson, Utah with my husband and family. Some of my hobbies are skiing, canoeing, golfing, gardening, fishing, river trips, searching out natural hot springs and Anasazi ruins. I like to spend time with my family and if I have a free hour, I pick up a book and read.

PS I forgot to mention that without her, we would have been denied the VBAC we knew we were capable of. She supported our decision the whole way. I'm so glad we found her :)

What an amazing woman- she is passionate about what she does, and is incredibly knowledgeable. We feel that our homebirth experience was lifechanging, and won't hesitate for a moment to put our future births in her capable hands. If you are thinking homebirth may be for you- you need to meet Cathy!

Cathy attended all 3 of my births and they were all a wonderful experience. I could not imagine having a baby without her attending me. She is very knowledgable and easy to talk to. I would recommend her to everyone. I felt very safe with her there.
