My name is Donna "Zee" Holmes. I am a Colorado Registered Midwife (RM), Florida Licensed Midwife (LM), and Certified Professional Midwife (CPM).

My mission is to provide personal, specialized, and compassionate care for mother and her baby throughout her pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum periods.

Since 1973, I have been actively involved in the medical field, but it wasn’t until 1997 that I became interested in becoming a natural, homebirth Midwife. I became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1973, and went to school to become an RN in 1983, and I graduate from Florida School of Traditional Midwifery in Gainesville, Florida in 2009 http://www.midwiferyschool.org.

I have had the privilege of assisting approximately 200 women and their families in the birth of their babies. I became a Midwife because I believe birth is a normal process in which a midwife plays a special role without controlling birth to fit into a medical model, but rather to empower a woman to make her own decisions for the birth and care of her baby.

I hold to The Midwives Model of Care which is based on the indisputable “fact” that pregnancy and birth are normal life processes.

“The Midwives Model of Care includes:

  • Monitoring the physical, psychological, and social well-being of the mother throughout the childbearing cycle
  • Providing the mother with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support
  • Minimizing technological interventions
  • Identifying and referring women who require obstetrical attention

The application of this woman-centered model of care has been proven to reduce the incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesarean section.” Copyright (c) 1996-2008, Midwifery Task Force, Inc., All Rights Reserved.

I personally love being a part of the birthing experience and assisting women to take control of what is supposed to be a natural process.
